AgadirSo much of sunshine has made Agadir, Morocco, the country's number one tourist destination. The pristine beaches and the sun is the perfect combination for every tourist from colder countries across the globe. Let us go on a tour of the city.

Agadir is considered the regional capital of Morocco and lies to the south of the Atlas Mountains. It is the shortened version of the Berber word “Agadir n Irir” which means, the fortified granary. It is a favorite with holidaymakers due to modern construction and the open spaces. The beaches are serene and favorable for water sports. There are several resorts where you may have leisurely accommodation and experience the superb hospitality of the Moroccans.

Agadir enjoys a very temperate climate including 300 days sunshine per annum, hence it is an ideal all year round destination, although it can be breezy and misty for part of the day in summer months. Average air temperatures and rainfall in the region are shown below.

Agadir Golf City

The city of Agadir has hosted this weekend (from May 26 to 29), for the fourth consecutive year, the "Golf of the Sun" tournament. Over 155 professional golf players, coming from 17 countries, took part in this year's tournament, which has already become a prestigious international challenge. Aujourd'hui Le Maroc reports that Morocco is represented in this event by 12 golfers. The winner takes home 130.000 euros

Agadir Medina

Slightly to the south of the city center, this is a place to be discovered with great delight: the new medina was reconstructed from the 1990s onwards by Italian architect Coco Polizzi. Careful urban development, craftsmen and restaurants. It is an original and bold success, where the Moroccan soul still survives. The jewelry souk and the Moorish café are more than worth the detour.

Two friends were comparing trips to Morocco. 'After three days in Marrakech, constantly being hassled for money, I just wanted to escape,' said one. The other was worked up about Tangier. 'You have to haggle for everything, including taxi fares,' the other complained. 'It's exhausting and puts you permanently on edge.' That's why people go to Agadir. It lacks the charm and edginess of Marrakech. Its old town was destroyed by an earthquake in 1960, leaving a modern souk in its place. But the beach resort - which sees Ryanair flights arriving from Stansted from October 28 - gives visitors a taste of 'Morocco-light' without the hassle. Morocco has been hailed as a new property hotspot thanks to King Mohammed VI's Plan Azur.

Moroccan cuisine and unfussy. Dishes have envolved from Persia via the Arabs . From Andalucia with the returning Moors and from the colonial French but the overrriding principle is to throw all the ingredients into a dish and then leave it to cook slowly . Prime exhibit is the national dish of tajine. it's essentially a slow-coooked stew of meat (usually lamb or chicken ) and vegetables ,with olives tangy preserved lemon, almonds or prunesprunes employed for flavouring .The name describes both the food and pot it's cooked in-a shallow earthen ware dish with conical lid that traps the rising steam and stops the stew from drying out .
